Funeral Services

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return.”

ICSR provides assistance  for funeral services in collaboration with PAAK Funeral Home. Here we provide you guidance and information for peacefully completing the burial of your deceased loved one.

Note: Please understand that the ICSR Masjid does not have its own Funeral Services (Gusal, Prep place and transportation for the Janazah). PAAK Funeral Home is a third part services provider. You are not in any way restricted to use ICSR Masjid facility if you arrange any other funeral services provider.

Steps to Follow:
Whom to inform:

A.  Police / 911

Call 911 immediately upon learning that your loved one has deceased

  • If the death is unexpected
  • If the death occurred in an accident
  • If you suspect foul play

If any of the above apply to the death of your loved one, the death will be investigated by a Medical Examiner. The Medical Examiner will release the body after the investigation has been completed for funeral preparations.

B. Hospice Care Provider (If deceased at home)

If your loved one was under Home Hospice, call the Hospice Care Provider. They will have to officially pronounce the death for funeral preparations

Death Bed To Grave

Several services are needed to take the body from the deathbed to the grave:

A. Obtaining a “Work Death Certificate”

  • If the death took place in a hospital, the hospital will issue a
Work Death Certificate (Note: This is different from the Death Certificate issued by the township).
  • If the death took place at home and the deceased was under Home Hospice Care,
the Hospice Service Provider must officially pronounce the death.
  • If the death took place at home and was not under hospice care,
contact your family doctor to obtain a Death Certificate.

B. Funeral Home

  • Releases the body from home or hospital.
  • Transports the body from the place of death to the Paak Funeral Home Preparation Room.
  • Transports the body from Paak Funeral Home to ICSR Masjid, then to the cemetery.
  • Installs a temporary grave sign.
  • Applies for the official Death Certificate from the township.

C. Janazah Preparation Room (PAAK Funeral Home)

  • This facility includes cold storage for holding the deceased overnight if burial on the same day is not possible.
The body is washed, shrouded (Kafan), and placed in a casket for burial.
  • The Janazah is transported to ICSR Masjid parking lot for Salat-Al-Janazah (Funeral Prayer),
and then taken to the final burial location.

D. Cemetery (Location finalized with family consent)

  • This is where the grave site is located, grave opening and closing services are provided,
and the deceased is laid to rest.

Immediately After Death

Soon after death, the body becomes cold and loses flexibility. Therefore, it is important to take a few steps
to position the body correctly for burial:

  • Turn the face towards the right.
  • Place the hands straight along the sides.
  • Close the mouth. If needed, tie a cloth around the chin and head to keep it closed.
  • Keep the feet together. If needed, tie the two big toes with a string.
  • Continue making Dua for the Maghfirah (forgiveness) of the deceased.

A. Home/Hospital to the Preparation Room

The Funeral Director obtains the release of the body and transports the deceased to the PAAK Funeral Preparation Room.
He is responsible for the custody and transportation.
